Polish production of paints and varnishes down by 13%

Despite a 25% increase in the number of new homes completed, the production of paints and varnishes decreased a dozen-or-so percent in H1 2012, reaching a level close to the decline recorded in 2009. At the same time, most producers moved to lift prices of their products, prompted by increased prices of components used in the production of paints and varnishes.
After a stable growth trend seen in 2010 and 2011 (when production grew 11% and 6%, respectively), the production of paints and varnishes dropped more than 13% in H1 2012. The situation in the industry thus increasingly resembles the one seen in 2009. Declines accelerated in Q2 2012 as production tumbled approx. 9% in Q1. A similar slowdown was concurrently reported in the industrial sector.
