Penoplex and Technonicol control more than 70% of XPS production in Russia

Until 2005 the consumption of expanded polystyrene (EPS) in construction had been limited, with up to 2 million m³ of EPS sheets being consumed every year. At the same time, in the early 2000s about 6-7 million m³ of slag, rock and similar mineral wool products were produced every year, whereas production of fibreglass thermal insulation products came to less than 500,000 m³.
Despite the fact that the popularity of stone wool products in Russia has increased substantially since 2000, the production of these products has remained markedly consolidated. The Central Federal District is responsible for almost half of the rock and slag wool products manufactured in the country, largely because of the proximity of the production units to the major consumer: the Moscow area.
