Road construction to revive Hungary’s civil engineering sector in 2013

After years of contraction in civil engineering, the first encouraging signs regarding the trends in the coming years were noticed. At the end of December 2012, construction companies’ stock of orders was 25.6% higher than in 2011, and within that, orders for civil engineering work went up by an impressive 53%.
According to data from the Hungarian Public Procurement Authority, the share of construction in public procurement did not change significantly in 2012 in terms of the number of projects. 2,779 construction procedures represented 32.9% of all of them, only a slight decrease from 34.8% in 2011. Regarding the value of tenders, construction climbed from HUF 680.5bn (€2.3bn) to HUF 737.3bn (€2.5bn), an increase in share from 46.7% to 55.3%. These numbers underpin the fact that public procurement remained the most reliable segment for companies involved in civil engineering.
