21.3% fall in number of building permits issued in Q2 2010

There was a 21.3% reduction in the number of building permits for residential buildings issued in Q2 2010 in comparison with Q2 2009, and a rise of 46% in comparison with Q1 2010, according to National Statistics Institute (NSI) data. The total number of construction permits for residential buildings issued in Q2 2010 was 1,441.
The highest number of building permits for new residential buildings has been registered in Varna (176 residential building permits), in the capital city of Sofia (166), in Burgas (135) and in Plovdiv (121).
There was a 26.6% year-on-year reduction, and 18.4% quarter-on-quarter rise in the number of building permits for administrative buildings in Q2 2010, to 58 in total. The number of building permits for other buildings issued in Q2 rose by 0.9% year on year to 1,171.
In Q2 2010 the construction of 785 new residential buildings, including 1,811 dwellings, began, as did the construction of 36 administrative buildings and 545 other buildings.
