Abu Dhabi company may build Bulgaria’s Formula 1 track

A consortium may be formed between a Bulgarian state-owned construction firm and Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Associate Business Group in order to build a Formula 1 track in Bulgaria, according to a report in Dnevnik. The parties signed a preliminary memorandum. The original investor from Qatar withdrew after signing a preliminary agreement with the Bulgarian government in April 2010.
The track is to be located on the 3,200 ha site of the former Dobroslavci military airbase, near Sofia. It is estimated that the construction work will cost at least €200m, and it must be completed by 2012, when Bulgaria is due to host a Formula 1 race.
