Matra Volan to announce tender for reconstruction of bus station in Gyongyos

2010-09-02

Matra Volan has obtained funding of HUF 362m (€1.3m) from the Northern Hungary Operational Programme for Transportation Development, which will be used to rebuild the bus station, to modernise bus stops in Gyongyos and 10 surrounding municipalities and to develop passenger information systems.
The company intends to announce a tender for the construction of a retail centre adjacent to the bus station in Gyongyos, which will serve both travellers and local people. The project is expected to cost HUF 3bn (€10.5m) and will be completed by the end of 2011 or early 2012. The retail centre will be built on a 9,000 m² site which Matra Volan recently purchased from the town of Gyongyos for HUF 74m (€258,000).
Matra Volan has offered MAV, the Hungarian railway company, the opportunity to join the project, because of the project’s strategic location adjacent to the railway station. The bus station in Gyongyos is the fourteenth busiest in Hungary, with 16,000-18,000 passengers travelling through it every day. Negotiations are underway at the moment.
