Steep reduction in turnover for AAC manufacturers

The eight largest manufacturers of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) on the Romanian market had a combined turnover of €145.6m in 2009, a 30% reduction in comparison with 2008, according to wall-street.ro. This was accompanied by a steep fall in profitability, with only four players in the black last year. The total net loss registered by the eight companies reached €33.8m last year. In 2008, the combined profit of the eight largest AAC makers reached €15.8m.
Xella Romania, part of the
Xella Group, the world’s largest AAC manufacturer, made the most substantial loss, €28.4m, in 2009 among all of the major players on the market. This represented a significant reduction in comparison with the profit of €800,000 in 2008. Last year, the company invested €32m in a production unit in Romania.
The most profitable AAC manufacturer in Romania last year was
Celco Constanta. The company netted €8.1m and turned over €24.7m in 2009.
The eight companies made 810 people redundant last year. At the end of 2009 they had 3,178 employees. In 2009, the Romanian AAC market declined in terms of volume by 10% year on year, to 2.3 million m³.
