Construction of the 14 km expressway R4 between Kosice and Milhost commenced at the end of August 2010, SITA has reported. Construction works are expected to last two and a half years and cost the state some €77.7m, excluding VAT. The project includes construction of 15 bridges.
Construction of the undertaking was initially planned to start in June 2010. The delay was due to the reevaluation of the tender’s results. Investment in the project is to be covered also from EU funds as part of the Operational Transport Programme.
The construction was launched three weeks after the National Motorway Company (NDS) signed the contract with Skanska SK, the selected constructor. Skanska SK offered €39m less than the price of the works envisaged by the NDS at €116.8m. The re-assessment of the tender’s results was made at the request of the Office for Public Procurement (UVO) in Slovakia.
