Slovak Minister of Agriculture wants new construction law
2010-09-02
The Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Regional Development Zsolt Simon is planning in cooperation with other ministers to prepare a new bill on land planning and construction, which would introduce firm disciplinary action against companies that carry out constructions on the black market, SITA reported.
According to a news release from the Ministry of Agriculture, the bill is envisaged to scrap the system of fees for various types of land. Now, parties interested in construction on agricultural land struggle through various methods to move the parcels of land to lower categories in order to pay lower fees. According to Zsolt Simon, these fees are a source of corruption. In 2010, these fees are expected to bring to the budget a total of €5.3m. The minister proposed to have a single fee of €0.10 for a square metre of agricultural land. The minister wants the new law to take effect in January 2010.
