The state-controlled Czech Railways (CD) started this year to sell off its dwelling stock, which comprises approximately 2,000 flats. The sale of all the flats could bring the Czech railway company an aggregate income of some CZK 800m (€32.3m), according to estimates from the company’s representatives cited by Hospodarske Noviny.
The railway operator plans to offer the flats to the tenants who have lived in these dwellings, usually former and current employees of the railway firm. They will be offered three months to decide whether they are interested in purchasing the flat where they live. If they do not want it, the flats will be put up for sale on the market.
In H1 2010 Czech Railways had a net profit of CZK 21m (€0.8m), which was an improvement by CZK 78m (€3.1m) compared to the same period of last year.
