Nuclear power station project in Poland attracts construction companies
2010-08-26
A new nuclear power station will be built in Poland in the next few years. The investment, estimated to be worth approximately PLN 40bn (€10.2bn), has attracted the interest of Poland's biggest construction firms, Rzeczpospolita reported.
Companies operating on the Polish construction market are already preparing to compete for the contract to build the facility. However, to be eligible to take part in the tender they must possess, among other things, international safety certificates, for which they are already applying.
According to the preliminary timetable, the contract to build the power station is to be signed by 2013 at the latest. The work may begin in five or six years from now and at that time around half of the work will be carried out by domestic construction enterprises. Two companies that have already announced their intention to compete for the contract are Polimex-Mostostal and PBG, which are seeking firms willing to join them in consortia to carry out the investment. Competition will be intense as orders in the power engineering sector have high margins and, as a consequence, are highly attractive for construction firms.
