The company Polimex-Mostostal has emerged as the victor in a tender to build the European Solidarity Centre (ECS) in Gdansk, PAP reported. The company will build the complex at a cost of PLN 157m (€40.2m). The other eight firms and consortia which took part in the tender have the right to challenge the result for a period of ten days from the date the tender results are announced.
ECS will be erected on the site of the former Gdansk Shipyard. The centre will boast a total floor area of close to 29,000 m² and will contain, among other things, an exhibition on the history of Solidarity, a multi-purpose hall capable of holding up to 430 people, an archive, a research-academic centre, an education-training centre and a library.
If everything goes according to plan the construction work will commence in November 2010 and will take until October 2013 to complete. The undertaking has been awarded an EU subsidy of PLN 140m (€35.9m).
