M4 metro line tunnel to Baross Square completed
2010-07-13
The DBR Metro Project Directorate has reported that the tunnel of Budapest’s M4 metro line has reached Baross Square after an 11-month delay.
The construction of the M4 metro line, which the company
Bamco has been building, began in early 2007, and the project is due to be completed by 2013. The mining work on this section of the tunnel was made possible by special earth pressure balance shields (EPMs) for drilling. The equipment was built specifically for this project. Closed-face tunnelling of this nature was necessary because of the difficult composition of the soil of this 450-metre section.
The undertaking has already received the necessary permits for the construction of a second section, and the tender for the construction of this will be announced in the near future.
