PLN 60m EU funding to support Gdansk airport expansion
2010-07-08
Gdansk Airport has been awarded subsidies worth PLN 60m (€14.6m) from the Infrastructure and Environment programme to finance expansion work.
In the first of the projects the airport wants to build a taxiway, aircraft de-icing stations and a new rainwater drainage system. There are also plans to refurbish the airport's power system and purchase noise monitoring equipment. The investment will require a budget of PLN 93m (€22.6m), PLN 45.6m (€11.1m) of which will be contributed by the EU. The second of the planned projects concerns the purchase of passenger safety control and airport control systems. The latter investment will require expenditure of PLN 48m (€11.7m) with the EU providing PLN 14.5m (€3.5m).
The airport has already obtained three other EU subsidies, which will help finance the purchase of a fire and emergency vehicle and build a winter equipment storage base and a technical-patrol road.
