3.6% increase in number of residential building permits issued in Bulgaria in Q4 2011

There was a 3.6% increase in the number of building permits for residential buildings issued in Q4 2011 in comparison with Q4 2010, and a decrease of 10.6% in comparison with Q3 2011, according to National Statistical Institute (NSI) data. The total number of construction permits for residential buildings issued in Q4 2011 was 1,194.
The highest number of building permits for new residential buildings has been registered in Burgas (186 residential building permits) and the capital city of Sofia (137), followed by district Sofia (111), Varna (110) and Plovdiv (97).
There was a 7.7% year-on-year increase, and 8.2% quarter-on-quarter decrease in the number of building permits for administrative buildings/offices in Q4 2011, to 56 in total. The number of building permits for other buildings issued in Q4 increased by 41.1% year on year to 1,563.
In Q4 2011 the construction of 640 new residential buildings, including 1,740 dwellings, began, as did the construction of 28 administrative buildings/offices and 670 other buildings.
