Czech government establishes priority road infrastructure projects for 2012
2012-01-20
500 road infrastructure projects are needed in the Czech Republic, marking a total combined investment of CZK 100bn (€3.9bn), according to the transportation infrastructure strategy for the period until 2020, approved by the Czech government in January 2012.
Nevertheless, funds are not available for all of these projects and the government strategy is, therefore, built around its main priorities. For 2012 these include the repair of several sections on the D1 motorway, the construction of the D11 motorway from Hradec Kralove and the modernisation of the railway between Veseli nad Luznici and Tabor. In 2012, the Czech government plans to spend CZK 46bn (€1.79bn) on road infrastructure projects, CZK 2bn (€78m) more than in 2011.
The State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), the main investment vehicle in the country’s transport industry, has a total budget of CZK 66bn (€2.58bn) for 2012, instead of the CZK 101bn (€3.96bn) initially estimated. This budget also includes EU contributions.
